Danny Loubert (he/him)

My name is Danny Loubert, and I am honoured to put my name forward as a candidate for the BC/Yukon Representative to the CHF Canada Board of Directors. I live in the Ford Road Housing Co‑operative, located in the unceded and traditional territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓‑speaking q̓ic̓əy̓ People, colonially known as Pitt Meadows. I come from mixed Musqueam and colonial ancestry, and my lived experience strongly informs my commitment to community‑centred governance and housing justice.

I currently serve as President of the CHF BC Board, where I work alongside other housing co‑operators across the province to strengthen governance, advocate for members, and support co‑ops in navigating an increasingly uncertain financial and political environment. This role has given me a clear understanding of how regional federations and the national body must work together—aligning policy, advocacy, and governance to ensure co‑operative housing remains protected and viable across Canada. Strong communication, collaboration, and policy alignment across all levels of CHF are essential to our collective success.

Professionally, I work as an Administrative Coordinator with the First Nations Health Directors Association Secretariat within the First Nations Health Authority. I previously spent 14 years in the BC Public Service, including seven years in the Office of the Premier, where I developed extensive experience in policy development, intergovernmental relations, and complex governance structures. These experiences have strengthened my ability to navigate decision‑making environments that require accountability, collaboration, and long‑term strategic thinking—skills I bring directly into my work within the co‑operative housing movement.

My advocacy is deeply personal. As a former youth in care, I understand firsthand how stable, affordable housing can change lives and strengthen communities. I have also served as a shop steward with the BC General Employees’ Union and served the local and component executive, which grounded my leadership approach in collective action, accountability, and member‑driven decision‑making.

At the local level, I serve on the City of Pitt Meadows Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee and the Pitt Meadows Day Advisory Committee. These roles keep me connected to grassroots community needs and reinforce my belief that effective governance must always remain rooted in the people it serves.

As a Parent, I am deeply aware of the responsibility we carry to build systems that will last well beyond ourselves. That perspective reinforces my commitment to strong governance, long‑term planning, and protecting co‑operative housing so future generations—like my daughter’s—can inherit stable, affordable communities.

As BC/Yukon Representative, I will advocate strongly for the protection and growth of co‑operative housing. My priorities include defending every existing co‑op home, strengthening supports such as FCI‑2 Rental Assistance, and ensuring that new federal housing initiatives create real opportunities for co‑ops to expand—without losing a single existing unit. I believe our collective strength lies in relationships, collaboration, and governance frameworks that centre community voices.

I am ready to represent BC and Yukon members at the national table, bringing my experience, collaboration, and commitment to help build a strong, sustainable future for co‑operative housing across Canada.
