Ontario Region made a submission to the Province on their proposed regulations for inclusionary zoning (IZ). We want to ensure the regulations will assist the growth of affordable housing units.
We made the following recommendations:
- Allow municipalities to decide for themselves what percentage of units should be set aside for affordable housing
- Prioritize creating affordable rental housing
- Remove the limit on inclusionary zoning units for off-site buildings and restrict to non-profits and co-ops
- Refocus the policy to allow municipalities more latitude to create affordable units.
