This Tuesday, November 22, was National Housing Day, an opportunity to shine a spotlight on how co-op housing is an ideal solution for many Canadians, and why we need more of it. CHF Canada was active on social media, underscoring the contributions of Canada’s housing co-op communities and leaders. CHF Canada representatives and regional federations met with Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion to discuss ways to sustain and grow the sector.
Also, November 23 was the annual Co-op Housing Day at Queen’s Park in Ontario. MPPs joined representatives from housing co-ops, CHF Canada and regional federations for a series of meetings over the week. By Friday, we will have met with 20 MPPs from all parties to discuss how to support our existing co-ops and build support for developing more co-op housing communities.
