Nova Scotia extends co-op rental assistance

On June 24, Housing Nova Scotia confirmed it will be extending rent supplement programs for one year, available to housing co-ops with operating agreements that matured in 2019 and 2020.

CHF Canada has been advocating on behalf of members in Nova Scotia for consistent rent supplement extensions for low-income households living in housing co-ops. We have heard from members that the current month-to-month program extensions have created undue stress and difficulty in managing budgets, particularly now at a time of increased uncertainty of a global pandemic. CHF Canada has urged Housing Nova Scotia to create consistent extensions for all co-ops maturing from their agreement.

“We appreciate our partnership with Housing Nova Scotia and are pleased to see progress with this extension,” says Karen Brodeur, CHF Canada’s Regional Manager, Atlantic Region. “Our work is not done however, and we’ll continue to advocate for a rental supplement program available to all co-ops in the province.”

For more information, please contact Karen Brodeur in CHF Canada’s Atlantic Region office.
