Regional Energy Coach Program extended: Free assistance to plan your co-op’s green renovations

Exciting news for co-ops interested in asset management and green renovations: the Regional Energy Coach program has expanded! Supported with funding from the Green Municipal Fund, the Community Housing Transformation Centre and CHF Canada, Regional Energy Coaches can provide your co-op tailored support, technical advice, and funding guidance. CHF Canada is pleased to be a partner in the program alongside the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association, Fédération des coopératives d’habitation de Québec, Indigenous Clean Energy and the Clean Foundation.

“Participating in the Regional Energy Coach program offers numerous benefits for housing co-operatives,” says Irfaan Hasham, the Regional Energy Coach dedicated to helping co-operative housing. “These include lower energy costs, improved member comfort and health, and enhanced sustainability.”

Last year, Irfaan supported co-ops by:

• Delivering 10 workshops,
• Reviewing 30 energy audit report reviews,
• Assisting with 33 grant applications,
• Engaging in 260 coaching interactions.

The REC program aligns seamlessly with CHF Canada’s Asset Management Plans (AMPs), as the REC’s insights and recommendations in the AMPs play a crucial role in the long-term strategies for co-ops. This alignment helps co-ops become environmentally sustainable by considering energy conservation measures that save operating costs and utility bills, improve members’ health and comfort, and reduce environmental impacts.
