Greening the Future
For members of Keegano Housing Co-operative in Edmonton, Alberta, a bad summer of drought and wildfires was a wake-up call to examine the use of their property. Keegano is one of the oldest housing co-ops in Edmonton, with 50 townhomes.
Caroline Street
The co-op was established in 2024, when the tenants fundraised to purchase the building from the landlord and convert it from market rentals to non-profit ownership. Caroline Co-op has 21 units, a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, rented to members at affordable rates, including a portion of units offered at rent-geared-to-income rates subsidized through the City of Hamilton.
