Organizational by-law for Ontario co-ops (2023)
Changes to the Ontario Co-operative Corporations Act went into effect October 1, 2023. Co-op by-laws need to be updated to reflect the changes in the Act.
The changes affect two by-laws: occupancy and organizational.
Occupancy by-law
Every co-op has an occupancy by-law. The occupancy amending by-law is for all co-ops to use.
Organizational by-law
Not every co-op shares the same organizational by-law. We created three models to amend or replace by-laws. Use this information to choose which model is right for your co-op:
WHICH BY-LAW UPDATE DOES MY CO-OP NEED? |
|
Our co-op passed the 2015 Organizational by-law | Use Electronic organizational by-law amendment 2023 OR Replace existing Organizational By-law with Model organizational by-law 2023 |
Our co-op did not pass the Organizational by-law in 2015 but would like to do so now | Use Model organizational by-law 2023 |
We don’t have an organizational by-law based on the 2015 model. We just want to deal with electronic meetings | Use Electronic meetings and balloting by-law 2023 |
WHAT OTHER DOCUMENTS DO WE NEED? | |
Every co-op needs to amend their occupancy by-law | Electronic amending Occupancy by-law 2023 |
