Election webinar puts spotlight on housing in Manitoba

On September 13, Manitoban co-op members joined other affordable housing advocates on a webinar hosted by CHF Canada and Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association (MNPHA) to discuss actions to make affordable housing a campaign issue in the upcoming provincial election on October 3.

The speakers covered a wide range of housing issues in Manitoba. MNPHA and CHF Canada outlined priorities and recommendations for non-profit and co-op housing. End Homelessness Winnipeg spoke on connecting homelessness with housing priorities as an Indigenous-led organization; the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights discussed tenant issues and outlined the pillars of the Social Housing Action Plan (which CHF Canada endorsed).

“We’re pleased to be partnering with MNPHA and other housing advocates to make our voices heard,” said CHF Canada’s Program Manager, Policy and Government Relations Diana Yoon. “Together, we are stronger. We know that whatever the outcome of the election, we will need to continue to advocate for access to affordable housing in the province.”
