Ontario Budget 2017: response from CHF Canada

Published April 27, 2017

Co‑ops welcome budget’s housing plan; call for more funding for affordable housing

Today the Ontario government released its 2017 Budget. In response, CHF Canada released a statement: Co-ops welcome budget’s housing plan, calls for more funding for affordable housing.

The Budget affirms last week’s announcement of the Fair Housing Plan. We are pleased that the government plans to leverage its surplus land to build affordable housing. For many years, CHF Canada has made this recommendation in our Pre-Budget Submission. Particularly in areas with high housing costs, leveraging land is one of the most effective ways to build new affordable housing.

After today’s budget, CHF Canada is calling on the government to invest more money in affordable housing to help build new co‑ops. More and more Ontarians are struggling to find a place they can afford to call home. As our members well know, co‑ops provide good quality, stable housing with a strong sense of community that remains affordable for generations.
