Guest speakers

With big thanks to our keynote sponsor, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, we are thrilled to have two very accomplished guest speakers as part of this year’s Annual Meeting as we work towards a shared vision of “Co-op Housing for All.”

Esi Edugyan is a two-time recipient of the Scotiabank Giller Prize (and twice shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize) for her novels Half-Blood Blues and Washington Black. Sarcee Meadows Housing Co-op in Calgary is very proud that she lived there as a teen and her father remains a member today. In 2014, Esi published her first book of non-fiction, Dreaming of Elsewhere: Observations on Home. She lives in Victoria, British Columbia, with her husband and two children. Photo by Tamara Poppitt.
Champlain Housing Trust CEO Brenda Torpy has 34 years of experience in the affordable housing field. CHT is the largest community land trust in the United States, with over 6,000 members, 90 employees and 2,600 affordable homes in northwest Vermont. Under Brenda’s leadership, CHT received the 2008 UN World Habitat Award. Brenda has travelled extensively as a speaker and to assist start-ups of Community Land Trusts in the U.S., Canada and internationally.
