Introducing three ‘new’ co-op housing federation staff

Published May 13, 2020

Although all these three women have a previous connection with co-op housing, they have each taken on new roles in the sector:

  • Sophie Cooper became Program Manager for Educational Services with CHF Canada on February 1. She brings extensive knowledge of the sector to her new position, having previously worked with CHF BC as their Education Director and before that with co-ops in the U.K. and Europe.

Starting a job during the Covid-19 crisis has presented some challenges, but she sees these as potential for professional growth. She is enjoying learning from colleagues, and is looking forward to meeting them in person eventually.

Sophie lives in North Vancouver where she enjoys hiking in the mountains and watching her energetic young son ski-race.

  • Jovette Fournier started her role as Executive Director of CHASEO last September. With more than 20 years of co-op and housing management experience, she brings with her a wealth of experience along with a passion for affordable housing.

Fully bilingual, Jovette is excited to be working with other sector partners, and hopes to be able to use her thorough knowledge of provincial and local laws and regulations to empower the sector.

  • Emily Smith joined COCHF on March 1 as Interim Executive Director filling in for Naomi Cho. A natural collaborator and communicator, Emily has worked in the housing co-op sector since 2011, and feels this position is broadening her view of co-op culture and organization.

Her training in and comfort with informational technology have proven helpful with the new normal of virtual meetings and events.

A natural maker, Emily can often be found knitting, sewing, doing origami, or anything crafty. She also spends a fair bit of time online, staying on top of politics and world events.
