Diversity scholarships awarded to young co-op leaders

Published May 09, 2018

This spring, two more accomplished young co-op members have received scholarships to help them fund their education. CHF Canada is pleased to announce the two most recent Diversity Scholarship winners:

  • In Manitoba, recipient Adrianna Penton (top photo) from Carpathia Housing Co-op has been active in her co-op and with the Rady Jewish Community Center Day camps as a volunteer. She will be studying kinesiology at the University of Winnipeg. This scholarship sponsored by Assiniboine Credit Union and The Co-operators, as well as housing co-op and community sponsors.
  • In Nova Scotia, Mikaila Borden (bottom photo) from Needham Housing Co-op started a young member group at her co-op. She also volunteers with children at the YMCA Center for Immigrants, tutors French at the North Branch Library and volunteers at the IWK Health Center.  This scholarship is sponsored by The Co-operators, Bluenose Engineering, and the Community Housing Management Network.

Since launching the Young Member Engagement Strategy in 2013, CHF Canada has made a commitment to recognize and support the emerging leaders of our movement. CHF Canada and partner regional federations offer diversity scholarships across the country.  CHF Canada’s scholarship program supports outstanding young people pursuing full-time post-secondary education who live in CHF Canada member co-ops in Manitoba, Southwestern Ontario and Nova Scotia and have shown leadership promoting diversity in their communities. The Southwestern Ontario scholarship is awarded in the fall.
