Ashworth Square:  40-year loyalty award recipient

Congratulations to Ashworth Square Housing Co-op in Mississauga for 40 years of continuous CHF Canada membership!

Ashworth Square was developed in 1970 as a collaboration between the Co-operative Habitat Association, formed by a group of interested citizens, and the United Church of Canada, providing 152 units of housing in an apartment tower and stacked townhouses.

Ashworth Square has an elections committee to vet candidates for governance seats at the board table.  Nominees must show an active interest in the co-op, by attending general meetings and taking on committee work before their nomination is accepted by the membership.

Concern for Community is the 6th co-operative principle, and Ashworth Square is working to strengthen their connections to their neighbourhood.  There is a daycare on site where members can enrol their children.  Mental health services are also offered on site, and they recently started a food bank.  The co-op wants these services to continue after the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
