Canada’s housing co-ops warmly welcome Build Canada Homes
Published September 14, 2025
Today’s announcement by Prime Minister Mark Carney launching Build Canada Homes holds significant promise for a more secure and affordable future for the many Canadians struggling in today’s housing market.
The co-operative housing sector warmly welcomes Build Canada Homes, and in particular applauds that non-market housing will be a significant focus. Co-operative housing is a successful form of non-market housing, offering secure, affordable homes to a quarter of a million Canadians in strong, inclusive communities across the country.
“The co-operative housing sector looks forward to working with the federal government through Build Canada Homes to build and acquire more co-operative homes at the speed and scale Canada requires,” said Tim Ross, CEO of the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHF Canada).
“With decades of development experience and a ready pipeline of projects across the country, the co-operative housing sector is ideally suited to support the federal government in achieving its goals of quickly building the kinds of homes and communities that Canadians want” continued Ross.
CHF Canada and the co-operative housing sector look forward to learning more about Build Canada Homes in the weeks ahead.
