The Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada is recruiting for a full time (35 hours per week), permanent position of Co-ordinator, Co-operative and Planning Services, Atlantic. The position will be based in Truro, Nova Scotia office with a target start date of March 16, 2024. Hybrid work options are available, working out of the Truro, NS office.

The Co-ordinator, Co-operative and Planning Services, Atlantic is a direct report to the Regional Manager, Atlantic. The Program Manager, Atlantic will provide regular functional supervision and leadership to the Co-ordinator on day-to-day activities in supporting member services in Atlantic Canada. The Co-ordinator supports organizational initiatives that help foster understanding, awareness and learning, of and for co-operative housing including education to members, member engagement, advocacy, communications and events. The position supports work that enhances sustainability among members and the sector such as growth and development, scale and alternative governance models, and long-term planning. The Co-ordinator will work in collaboration with other CHF Canada staff to deliver CHF Canada services to member housing co-operatives in the region. The Co-ordinator responds to requests for information and assistance from members about their operations and CHF Canada awards and grants programs. The Co-ordinator supports the promotion, organization and delivery of regional education conferences and other regional meetings of housing co-ops in Atlantic Canada. The Co-ordinator support the set-up, data input, training and usage of document and record management systems.

What we’re looking for:

  • A post-secondary school diploma in a related field or equivalent experience, particularly in business administration or finance.
  • Familiarity with the affordable housing sector in Canada and the legislative framework governing housing co‐ops.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of the non-profit co-operative housing movement in Canada.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: planning and organizing meetings/events, client services delivery, co-op housing management, project administration.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of effective governance models and management of a non‐profit organization.
  • Advanced word-processing skills (MS Word), excellent spreadsheet skills (MS Excel); database program skills (Salesforce); and experience with Office 365 (SharePoint), graphic design (Canva) and website management (WordPress).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening skills and plain-language writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
