National Education Committee launches three online learning modules
Published May 23, 2024
The National Education Committee has launched three brand new eLearning modules to support staff and Boards of Directors in governing and managing their co-ops effectively.
The National Education Committee is a group of representatives from co-operative housing federations and associations across Canada. They are working together, demonstrating Co-operation among Co-operatives, to meet the education needs of housing co-op staff and managers, boards, co-op members, and members of the public interested in co-op housing.
To meet the need for accessible, high-quality online education for co-op Boards of Directors and co-op staff and managers, more on demand courses will be available through this online learning platform.
The eLearning platform is for individuals to learn about key issues related to co-op housing that complement other in-person and group learning. Modules are self-paced, meaning learners move through the content when it is convenient for them and at their own pace. Some modules take only 10 or 20 minutes to complete, while others are longer for more in-depth learning.
Three new modules are now available:
1. Keeping ahead of the storm: fulfilling your legal duties as a Board Director
This short, interactive module is for anyone interested in learning about the legal duties of co-operative housing Boards of Directors. You will learn key terms, what the legal duties of Board Directors are, how to abide by them, and more.
2. Personal information protection
This module is designed to help housing co-op Board Directors and managers understand how to treat personal information in a way that respects privacy law, particularly recognizing that personal information is sometimes necessary for Boards of Directors to make decisions in the best interest of the co-op.
3. Taking effective meeting minutes
This microlearning module is designed to provide co-op housing staff and Boards of Directors with the knowledge to take accurate, legal minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors. You will learn how to capture the important points of a meeting in a concise and legally-appropriate way.
Log in from any device to access co-operative learning on-the-go.
Each module is $25 and includes downloadable resources and recommendations for next steps in your learning journey.
More modules are currently in development and will be made available in the near future.
