Mandatory closure of more Ontario workplaces

Published April 03, 2020

This afternoon the Ontario government released an updated list of essential workplaces. The list, which is linked from the news release, is much shorter than the previous one released on March 23rd and no longer includes community housing.

The message is quite clear that the only staff that should be on site in residential properties are those people who have to maintain the safety, security and essential operation of the buildings. Item 20 on the list of essential workplaces states the following is essential:

“Maintenance, repair and property management services strictly necessary to manage and maintain the safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential properties and buildings.”

The new restrictions come into force at 11:59 pm tomorrow night, Saturday April 4th. Co-op staff should use Saturday to retrieve any items from their office that they need to work remotely, using social distancing rules set by public health.
